Welcome to the Mighty Waikato!
A bit of a hidden gem, the Waikato doesn’t always spring to mind right away – but it should.
The fourth largest region in New Zealand (covering 25,000 square kilometres), the Waikato is home to almost 10% of the country’s population.
With rolling farmland, unique attractions and good ol’ Kiwi hospitality, the Waikato is a destination in and of itself.
There you’ll find Hobbition and Waitomo along with fantastic surf beaches (Raglan and Port Waikato, for example) and stunning rivers and waterfalls.
The Waikato is a beautiful and totally under-rated part of Aotearoa.
Be sure not to miss it when getting your travels in New Zealand sorted!
