Marlborough – The Gateway to the South Island
If you’re a fan of the finer things in life (and incredible scenery) then Marlborough will be a must-visit destination for you!
Known for its world-renowned Sauvignon blanc wine, dry climate and the beautiful Marlborough Sounds, this region is as beautiful as it is interesting.
If you cross into the South Island from Wellington, you’ll pass through Picton first, before heading deeper into the Marlborough region.
Home to over 75% of New Zealand’s wine industry and 20% of the country’s coastline (throughout the Marlborough Sounds), Marlborough is a must for all oenophiles. The majority of vineyards are found just out of Blenheim, making the town a great place to base yourself for a few days.
Whilst visiting this incredible region, you’ll also want to pay a visit to Kaikoura.
Known as the best place in New Zealand to see our incredible marine life, this unique coastal town is home to pods of dolphins and whales along with the gorgeous Kaikoura seals.
With countless incredible hikes (including both single day and multi-day options), vineyards and nature activities, this region, really is the ultimate place for an adult’s getaway in Aotearoa!
