Taupo & National Park’s Top Activities & Attractions
Both Taupo and National Park host a wealth of natural and man-made attractions. With so much to do in Taupo, you’ll want to allow plenty of time for your visit!
If you enjoy snowboarding, skiing and playing amoungst the snow, you’ll want to check out Mt Ruapehu’s skifields – both Turoa and Whakapapa are fantastic. They also happen to provide the only opportunity to hit the slopes in the North Island (with the exception of indoor skiing in Auckland).
Whilst in National Park, you’re also able to head out mountaineering, mountain biking and trout fishing.
In addition, you’ll find the famed Tongariro Crossing – one of only three Great Walks in the North Island. This hike is the only single day Great Walk in the country and is widely celebrated by locals and tourists alike.
Back in Taupo, we suggest you check out the Huka Falls and enjoy a sailing over to the Māori rock cavings (on Lake Taupo). The natural hot water pools are unmissable too!
For those looking for a challenge, Taupo has got you sorted too. Whether it’s the hole-in-one golf challenge (down on the lake) or an exciting skydive, Taupo’s ready to help you push your limits.
If you’re travelling with kids, you’ll want to be sure to head to McDonalds for lunch too. There, you can dine inside a real DC3 plane!
