Taranaki’s Best Activities, Attractions & Things to Do

Whilst travelling in and around Taranaki you’ll want plenty of activities lined up – both free and paid.

If possible, we suggest heading to New Plymouth during the summer season.  From mid-December to early February Pukekura Park comes to life in an amazing display of colour.  The TSB Festival of Lights is a real favourite and is, without a doubt, a highlight on the local calendar – and best of all, it’s free!

Be sure to book your accommodation in advance whilst the festival is on to ensure you’re not caught short.

Head towards the Whanganui River and you’ll find amazing jet boating and also the Forgotten World Railway.  The railway is an amazing glimpse of what life in New Zealand used to be like and is a surprising highlight in the area!

For keen hikers, there’s also the challenge of Mt Taranaki and it’s local walks.

Get those bags packed and enjoy exploring Taranaki and all that it offers!
